The history of the village
The village is characterized by the presence of old houses over which an imposing medieval tower “dominates.” This is probably where the toponym of “Dominisia” comes from, from “castrum”-castle, over which the tower is overlooking the village itself. Tower that thus performed the function of control over the main complex of the estate, the “domus” precisely: that imposing house surrounded by the small village. All, of course, under the power of the “Dominus,” the lord who administered its jurisdiction.
He gave life to a reality capable of preserving the ancient flavors, far from the noisy bustle of the urban centers that were gradually being established in the hills and plains, which would later be called the Little Homeland of Friuli.
The “Domus” (mansion) of the origins, immersed in the rich and picturesque forest vegetation, is preserved in the structure of today’s “Villa Borgo Murs.”
The villa itself coincides with the property that in the Middle Ages was part of the possessions of the Ministerial Counts, the Savorgnans.
The original residential body was abandoned over the centuries; later the local population worked to regain possession of the “Domus,” the Villa, occupying and regaining the use of the surrounding lands on which they rebuilt their houses and thus gave new shape to the ancient nucleus. The latter, over time, developed into a real suburb (borgo). It was later specially named “Borgo murs” due to the fact that until the mid-twentieth century it was administered by such “Nelo Dai Murs.”
He preserved its primitive architecture with its outer containing walls. The arable land, itself very fertile, was organized into terraces suitable for the establishment of vegetable gardens or fallow land, in order to proceed with the use of fodder as hay: through cutting and subsequent drying.
Inside the architectural body were organized study conferences, restricted and dedicated to influential personalities, attended by ambassadors and businessmen.
Currently, the villa has been faithfully restored and organized with the aim of transforming itself into a receptive and tourist hub. Equipped with every comfort both inside and outside where a breathtaking landscape and a natural variety of lush vegetation dominate.
It is possible to admire the amazing ingenuity in the realization of rural architecture, which has preserved the originality of the masonry work, building and maintaining the main body of the building to achieve a striking visual effect.
The finely carved natural stone supporting structure has been left exposed both inside and outside.
Splendid is the hearth room with its own and characteristic wrought-iron wing, the “fogolâr” or “fogher,” which generate an atmosphere of warm and ancient suggestions.
Evocative is the reading room that seems to guard the crackling echoes of papers and ancient volumes.
The patio along with the outdoor subporch overlook the entire valley, allowing the gaze to reach the Adriatic Sea to the west, the Euganean Hills and the Berici Mountains to the east.
The outdoor courtyards, the gardens, as well as the patio and sub-porticos are at complete disposal of guests: an immersive velvet-green reality that transforms the setting into a lush park, capable of providing shade and refreshment on the one hand and, on the other, the possibility of walking while enjoying a healthy sun bath.
Among the many gardens, there is one that gives a palpable thrill in walking along an archaic path (part of the so-called ancient “clapadories”) bordered by finely assembled rocks and stones that, wedging into the dense leafy forest, leads to the heart of Borgo Dominisia.
The presence of a splendid outdoor swimming olympic-sized pool offers guaranteed opportunities for refreshment and fun.
Finally, there is the possibility of regeneration through walks along the hiking trails. These are widely spread and well-marked at trailheads and junctions.
They are generally suitable even for the inexperienced hiker and consequently equipped to be undertaken in complete safety.
The complex described so far, therefore, strongly characterizes that sophistication and elegant form of refined hospitality, which give exclusivity to the facility.
